"PEAK ALERT! PEAK ALERT!"Our members may hear from time to time our "PEAK ALERT!"announcements on various radio stations. Peak alerts are not a notice of a power shortage, they are simply a load management effort used to reduce the demand for electricity and keep your cost of power as low as possible. By keeping high electrical demand levels to a minimum, our Cooperative members reap the benefit, in the form of a lower cost of power. Radio Peak Alert announcements are one method The Energy Cooperative uses to inform Licking Rural Electric members that electric load levels are high. Peak Alert times are temperature dependent. As the temperature gets very hot or cold the likelihood for a Peak Alert increases. Another method is the use of Radio Controlled Switches (RCS) for electric water heaters, which operate during peak alerts conditions to further reduce the demand for electricity. Please listen carefully to the Peak Alert announcements. They will inform you as to when the peak conditions are expected. Suggestions like lowering your thermostat 3 degrees in the winter or raising your thermostat 3 degrees in the summer are provided to help curve the demand for electricity. Anything that you can do to help limit the use of electricity during these periods is very helpful. By working together, we can curve the demand for electric power. This teamwork is a win-win for the membership and the Cooperative as the Cooperative consistently works towards the goal of keeping the cost of power as low as possible.
