GIS Specialist

Location: The Energy Cooperative, 1500 Granville Road, Newark, OH 43055
Classification: Non-Exempt Status: This position is subject to the overtime requirements of the Fair Labor Standards Act, as amended.
Working Hours: Normal working hours are Monday-Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Overtime work may be required, as needed.
 Summary: This is a technical position responsible for the day-to-day administration of the Cooperative’s Geographic Information System (GIS).  Works under the direction of the department supervisor on the development, administration and maintenance of the Cooperative’s GIS and individual databases to ensure an integrated informational relationship between relevant information systems.
Job Duties Support and incorporate the Cooperative’s Mission, Vision and Values in personal and professional behavior and decisions.

Comply with Cooperative policies, procedures, goals and objectives and meets attendance and punctuality guidelines.

Understand, observe and enforce cooperative safety and security procedures and report potentially unsafe conditions to department supervisor and/or safety department personnel.

Works to maintain the Cooperative’s GIS system through data entry and updating, digitizing, map editing, and quality control techniques.

Operates a variety of electronic and manual equipment in the field to maintain and update the Cooperative’s GIS system.  Import data and make adjustments as needed.

Produces maps, diagrams, drawings, and reports as needed. Performs other related work in addition to other duties as may be assigned.

 Qualifications Education and Experience:  Associate degree in GIS, Computer Science or related curriculum with one to three years related GIS experience, or an equivalent combination of relevant education, experience and training.  Must have one to three years working knowledge in ESRI ArcGIS software.   Strong computer skills and a working knowledge of Microsoft Office.  Ability to perform mathematical calculations utilizing algebra, geometry and trigonometry.

Certificates, Licenses, and Training:  An individual in this position may be required to drive a company-owned vehicle at times and therefore is required to maintain a valid Driver’s License.  Must have the ability to attend meetings and/or training seminars when requested. Has the functional and technical knowledge and skills to do the job at a high level of accomplishment.

Language Skills:  Excellent verbal / written communication skills.  Ability to present written and oral reports to upper management when requested.  Is a good listener and actively engages in conversations in order to clearly understand others’ message and intent.  Is easy to approach and talk to and spends the extra effort to put others at ease.

Other Skills and Abilities:  Displays high standards of ethical conduct and is widely trusted and viewed as a direct and truthful person.  Effectively solves problems and has a realistic vision of the end result.  Requires minimal supervision.  Utilizes various resources to stay educated about new technology in the utility industry.  Pursues everything with energy, drive and a need to finish.  Remains calm under pressure and does not become defensive or irritated when times are tough.  Knows personal strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and limits and is open to criticism and is not defensive.

Physical Demands
And Work
Ability to work in a climate controlled environment with minimal physical exertion.  Travels to and from work sites and therefore must have the ability to work outside in adverse weather conditions and difficult terrain.

The physical demands of this position include frequent sitting, standing, walking, lifting and/or carrying, twisting/pushing/pulling, kneeling, talking, hearing, visual ability and mental and emotional demands.  Requires repetitive motions with hands and fingers such as dialing and keyboarding.

Must be available for unscheduled overtime and be able to work during non-working hours which may include weekends and holidays.

This position is subject to pre-employment physical and substance abuse testing and may be subject to random testing in accordance with the Cooperative’s substance abuse policy.
